Hello:
Thank you for your interest in The Penn State International Affairs and Debate Association! As promised, here is some additional information about our club. Our first meeting is this Sunday (8/29) at 6:30PM in 118 Thomas Building.
Penn State International Affairs and Debate Association (PSIADA) is a student-run organization comprised of members pursuing a diverse array of academic and professional fields. We participate in Model United Nations style competitions across the United States and Canada. This semester we will be participating in The Columbia Model United Nations Conference in New York October 7-10th as well as the National Collegiate Security Conference hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, DC October 28-31st.
All members are welcome and encouraged to participate in travel competitions. Although we do compete on the Ivy League Model United Nations (MUN) circuit (and do rather well!), there is no experience required, no tryouts, or any other Generic pills requirements in order to participate in any of the away competitions — we’re a very laid back club.
We also host our own collegiate conference in the spring (The Pennsylvania United Nations Conference – www.punc.psiada.org) and a high school conference in the fall (The Pennsylvania High School United Nations Conference www.phunc.org).
Outside of competing in MUN style competitions we try to hold weekly social events to discuss current issues, both at home and internationally, as well as a variety of other topics to better our debate skills. These events range from coffee hours, international cuisine nights, socials at our of our members’ apartments, and even various game nights (like RISK).
Outside of weekly debates and meetings we also host multiple parties throughout the year, tailgates, beach days, kayaking, and are starting a weekly soccer league. We’ll be throwing a new member party after our second general meeting (9/5) — more information about that will be provided at the meeting on Sunday.
Our meetings are held weekly each Sunday at 6:30PM in 118 Thomas Building. The best way to learn more about our club, meet our members and new people is to come out to our first meeting this Sunday the 29th at 6:30PM. There will be FREE PIZZA.
So, come on out and meet us this weekend and get to know more about our club and enjoy some free food. As all our members can attest, you’ll be very happy you came.
Looking forward to meeting you all this Sunday!
Rory
